In Ellison Bay, Wisconsin, the northwest winds often blow directly toward the shore. At their fiercest they can drive monstrous ice shoves up against the docks, bending iron I-beams as if they were wires. On gentler days the waves crash assertively into the docks, sending water sprays like silver fireworks exploding into the summer air. In this photo one such wave rises majestically, towering over the dock in one fleeting moment of glory.

Perhaps the most picturesque village in Door County, Wisconsin, the Moravian town of Ephraim sits peacefully on a bluff overlooking Green Bay, its two church steeples set against the North Woods. The fishing boat <i>Kelly</i> depicted here at Sand Bay dock in the 1970s after unloading its daily catch, began its long life in the 1940s. The <i>CW Lind</i> was a 40-ft. steel-hull boat with a 30-36 Kahlenberg engine that Clarence Lind had built in 1945 at Sturgeon Bay Ship Building and Dry Dock Company. Two fishermen from Washington Island, Oliver Bjarnarson and Hannes Hannesson, bought the boat from Clarence and renamed it <i>Esterlou.</i> In 1970 they sold it to Melvin Keller from Algoma, who renamed it <i>Kelly</i>, used it for many years, then sold it to Percy Peterson of Ellison Bay. In the late 1990s Percy sold the boat to Paul Saunders, who replaced the original engine with a diesel and in 2004 sold it to a fisherman from Milwaukee, who renamed it the <i>Alicia Rae</i>.
